Pelagic Cormorants nest on rocky bluff faces. There is a colony at The Sea Ranch and another at the north end of Hearn Gulch. Craig Tooley photographed a nest full of hatchlings off TSR.

Rick and I didn't know Pelagic Cormorants were nesting at Hearn Gulch but when we hiked there recently we saw these black seabirds coming and going. If you look closely you can see two Pelagic Cormorants on the rock face. Other nests were obviously on the bluff facing west as the birds were flying to and fro.

Yes, it's too bad I don't have Craig Tooley's most excellent camera lens! To find Hearn Gulch, a fairly new public access gem, park at mile marker 10.0 just north of Iversen Road in Mendocino County. To learn more about new accesses, visit the Redwood Coast Land Conservancy website at: www.rc-lc.org

We should be seeing the first Gray Fox kits soon. In the meantime here is Siegfried Matull's photo of a Gray Fox female that recently climbed on a tree stump on his property on The Sea Ranch.

Gray Foxes are great climbers. Perhaps this fox is looking for lunch or her mate.

Two years in a row now! A white Fawn is born on The Sea Ranch and Gerda Randolph photographed the special fawn.

2014 White Fawn and its normal-colored sibling by Gerda Randolph

You can see that its sibling is normal-colored. This fawn isn't an albino. It is considered a tow-head and will eventually color up. This white fawn is at risk because it lacks the normal camouflage of a fawn. Hopefully it will thrive, as did last year's white fawn.

It is wonderful to see a Bobcat saunter by your back deck. That's just what happened to Thom Matson at his home on The Sea Ranch.

You can clearly see its tufted ears and short, bobbed tail. Below is another photo of the Bobcat, walking across a meadow with the Pacific Ocean as a backdrop.

Bobcats love gophers and The Sea Ranch meadows have plenty of them!

Robert Scarola was at the bluffs overlooking the Tide Pool rookery on The Sea Ranch when he saw a mother Harbor Seal leading her pup towards the water.
