Saturday's waves were described as "monsters," and "the biggest I've ever seen." Janet Burch went to Del Mar Point on The Sea Ranch to photograph the action.

In coves, sea foam was created by the action of the waves, coating rocks and bluff faces.

And big rolling waves threw water and foam into the air.

It was a very dramatic day on the Mendondoma Coast. Today the storms have gone, and there is nothing but beautiful sunshine. We need to dry out a bit after all the wonderful rains.

Thanks to Janet for allowing me to share her photos with you here. One more of Janet's photos will be in Thursday's edition of the Independent Coast Observer in my column.

Ron Champoux found several Death Caps, Amanita phalloides, growing on The Sea Ranch. They are big, beautiful, and quite deadly if consumed.

I used to be afraid to touch one of the deadly three mushrooms, but at a mushroom forage with David Arora, I saw him handle a Death Cap without a care in the world. So Ron isn't putting himself in harm's way by handling this Death Cap. Still, I'd wash my hands thoroughly to be on the safe side.

We have rain coming in tonight, after a string of six days without the wet stuff. And you know what rain brings - mushrooms, and hopefully they will be the edible kind.

Thanks to Ron for allowing me to share his photo with you here.

There is a beautiful waterfall at Stengel Beach, which you can reach using the public access trail on The Sea Ranch. Allen Vinson recently photographed it.

Our sunny days, as seen in Allen's photo, look to be over, as cold and cloudy weather has arrived. And more rain is headed our way too.

Rozann Grunig took this sunset photo from her home at The Sea Ranch, and it sure looks like a beautiful golden fan. The colors of the sky and the ocean are amazing too.

Many coast residents got to see this event. Phil Wendt got this great photo at Black Point Beach off The Sea Ranch of Cumulus radiatus, or Cloud Sheets. This beautiful cloud show occurred on September 30th.

cumulus-radiatus-cloud-streets-phil-wendtPhil did some research on these clouds. He wrote:

“ Parallel lines of clouds form along the direction of the wind, and appear to converge toward the horizon due to the effects of perspective.”

Beautiful sky indeed! Thanks to Phil for allowing me to share his photo with you here. To see Phil's recent blog posts, and more about these clouds, here is his website: http://philwendt.com/
