A small pod of Killer Whales, Orcas, was seen off The Sea Ranch recently. Jan de Vries photographed this Orca as it splashed down on its side.

These Orcas are called Transients and they prey on CA Sea Lions and Harbor Seals.

Thanks to Jan for allowing me to share his photo with you here. I have a photo I took of a particularly beautiful sunrise a little over a week ago. I took this photo from the front deck of our home in Anchor Bay. These amazing colors didn't last long, but they had me gasping in wonder.

Let's face it, 2021 was a tough year for us humans. But the beauty of Mother Earth continued unabated. Carl Shapiro photographed this rainbow last Monday, from The Sea Ranch. Such beauty!

Look how green and lush the coast looks after all the wonderful rain we've had!

Michael Beattie also photographed a magnificent rainbow, this one appeared near Point Arena about ten days ago.

Breezy and very chilly on the Mendonoma Coast today. Several dozen Gray Whales were spotted yesterday, Thursday, headed south. Looks like the southward migration has begun in earnest. Many thousand of Grays still to swim by, headed for the birthing lagoons off Baja California. Black Turnstones overwinter on the Mendonoma Coast - they breed far to our north. Mike Reinhart recently found a group foraging at a beach at The Sea Ranch. In flight you can see their beautiful markings.

Black Turnstones are shorebirds and they do turn over stones and kelp to find food. Mike photographed one standing on kelp which has washed up on the beach. The bird overturns bits of kelp to find flies and eggs and other tasty morsels.

This Turnstone has some sand on its beak!

We had a nice storm this afternoon, Sunday. October rain is such a blessing. We have a lot of rain in our forecast too. Thank you, Mother Nature!

Eric Zetterholm noticed this Bobcat sitting in a meadow at The Sea Ranch.

Suddenly the Bobcat rose up and began staring at Gopher holes. Eric watched the cat with the tufted ears try to get a tasty rodent, but this time the Bobcat was unsuccessful. Just look at the intensity in the Bobcat's face!

Saturday is a spectacular day, warm with no wind. Last night, watching with friends, we saw a beautiful green flash at sunset. There is blessed rain in our forecast!

In the late spring, the non-native iceplant blooms on the bluffs at Black Point on The Sea Ranch, and Phil Lewenthal was there to photograph it. It is beautiful, there is no doubt!

The wind returned this afternoon. It's suppose to heat up beginning Thursday.
