This is the time of year for the rut - the mating season - of the Black-tailed Deer. Bucks have been seen chasing Does, so the game is afoot!

There is a big fog bank at the immediate coast. I can see fog drifting up Fish Rock canyon at times. The temps are in the low 60's today with no wind. Happy Autumn day to you!

Big Bucks are still being seen as the rut is winding down. The big boys move onto the coast in October looking for the most comely Doe. Drew Fagan recently photographed this five-point Black-tailed Deer. Isn't he magnificent?!

Robert Scarola recently photographed two Bucks practicing gentle jousting. They danced up and down the meadow by Robert's Sea Ranch home. Interestingly enough, several California Quail were close by and chose to ignore all the action taking place nearby.

October is the time of the rut of the coast's Black-tailed Deer, when the males fight for the chance to mate. Don't come between a Buck and his heart's desire. Lust is the only thing on his mind!
