C'Anna Bergman-Hill was visiting relatives on January 9th. She and her husband, David, observed this beautiful double rainbow in between Point Arena and Anchor Bay.

A little later this was the sunset they witnessed. Just beautiful!

Clouds are filling the sky as the first storm in several weeks is approaching. We can use the rain. Seasonal creeks are running low and wild mushrooms have mostly been missing in action. It's time for some wet stuff!

Thanks to C'Anna for allowing me to share her photos with you here.

August 7th was the day Ron LeValley caught magic with his camera. He photographed the setting sun in the hopes of capturing a green flash from the Little River Headlands in Mendocino County. To see a green flash is special enough but this one turned blue and then violet on each side.

What an incredible photo! Rick and I have purchase a copy so we can have it in our home. Here's the link to Ron's web site if you'd like to own a copy too: http://www.levalleyphoto.com/home/

I have several photos of the green flash on this site. Here's a link to one of them: http://www.mendonomasightings.com/2012/02/07/the-green-flash-was-photographed-by-richard-kuehn/

Thanks to Ron for allowing me to share this unique photo with you here.

Robert Scarola recently photographed the sunset. A group of Starlings swooped into view as if celebrating the sunset along with Robert.

Thanks to Robert for allowing me to share his photo with you here!

It's easy to watch the sunset when you are on the Mendonoma Coast - all it takes is a view of the ocean. With the warm weather the horizon has been clear the past several nights and, sure enough, there were green flashes on Monday and Tuesday. I tried to photograph Monday's green flash but wasn't successful. But at least my photos will show you what to look for. I will also put a link to a beautiful photo of a green flash that was shared here.

The sunset begins - rather a strange shape to the sun!

The sun is disappearing and you can see the separation you should look for.

And this is where you would see the green flash. Do you see a hint of green in the blazing yellow? This whole top turns emerald green for a second or two just before it disappears.

Gail Spencer photographed a beautiful sunset at Gualala Point Regional Park. This park is one of my favorites for a walk on the bluffs or a visit to the beach. It's the perfect place to watch the sunset too.

Rick and I had a memorable day there when a Gray Whale and her calf were rolling in the surf. Two visitors from New York were on the beach too and were they ever thrilled. Here's a link to find out more about this park. http://www.sonoma-county.org/parks/pk_glala.htm

It's also a wonderful place to walk your dog on leash. Huckleberry, our golden retriever, gives it two paws up! Thanks to Gail for allowing me to share her photo.
