We had a wild storm with lightning, hail, rain, wind…and rainbows!
We have received a lot of blessed rain here on the Mendonoma Coast. Every drop is welcome. On Tuesday a wild and windy storm hit the Coast.
It is fun to watch showers over the ocean. Several of these showers reached us as they headed east.

The next day, yesterday, the swells were big, creating big waves. Rick and I went to the Point Arena Lighthouse to watch for Gray Whales with friends and I photographed some of the beautiful wave action. You will have to imagine the sound of the crashing waves. And, yes, we did see some Grays!
Swell after swell rolled in. It can be mesmerizing to watch the Pacific Ocean!
Today we await a smaller storm. The weekend is to be clear and warm. I'm wondering if abalone divers will be able to go on their first hunt for red treasure this year!

As summer winds down, we look forward to more dramatic clouds. Early storms to our north often give us magnificent sunsets. I bet Don will be ready with his camera!

Beautiful clouds brought a vibrant rainbow on 12/12/12
A small storm swept through overnight leaving showers for this morning. Showers over the Pacific Ocean bring a chance for rainbows. And that's just what we had for this auspicious date - 12/12/12.
Rainbow days are one of the privileges of living on or visiting the Mendonoma Coast. My best to you today!

It was nice to hear the rain overnight. It was enough to freshen our creeks and rivers. Today storm clouds fill the sky, bringing brief downpours. Rozann Grunig photographed a similar day and has kindly allowed me to share it with you here.
One more storm for tomorrow and then the weekend looks dry. If you are thinking of visiting the Mendonoma Coast, this weekend could be ideal. Gray Whales were seen headed north before the storm closed the viewing window. The earliest wildflowers are blooming. I saw the first Bracken Ferns. They appeared as if by magic this morning. You can feel the thrum of life!
