Usually we see rainbows in the morning, but conditions were perfect for rainbows just before sunset. Peter Cracknell photographed a double rainbow on The Sea Ranch. You can see the setting sun reflected in the windows.

I love rainbow days. I saw a photo taken last Saturday of a rainbow soaring above the Gualala Hotel. That was the day the restaurant opened for the first time in several years. I hope it is a good omen for the venerable old gal. It's so good to see it open.

Thanks to Peter for allowing me to share his photo with you here.

Our last storm brought us magnificent rainbows. Jim Alinder photographed this one, which stretched over the town of Gualala.

Jim took this photo from the front door of his gallery, Alinder Gallery. He then went to his back door, which overlooks the Gualala Bluff Trail, and took this photo - a very dramatic weather day!

The morning of this rainbow Rick was driving down Highway One, just north of Gualala. He drove through a rainbow! Now, that's something that doesn't happen very often. We decided it meant good luck.

We had a second storm hit the Mendonoma Coast on Wednesday and we are thankful for this early rain. Following the storm were beautiful clouds and several rainbows. Thursday was an incredible day to be on the coast. Bettye Winters got these photos in the Irish Beach neighborhood.

The clouds cleared and Cathleen Crosby got this photo of Friday night's crescent moon.

There is always something beautiful to see here on the Mendonoma Coast!

Earth Day saw the last of a  recent series of small storms. The last one brought another beautiful rainbow, as vibrant as can be. Peggy Berryhill got this photo from Gualala Point Regional Park.

This  view spot is on the way into the park. It is a favorite of many of us for taking photos of the Gualala River and the Pacific Ocean. How fortunate for us that Peggy was there at the exact moment this rainbow appeared.

The Gualala River closed Sunday night and has since filled up. I will share some photos of that soon. It's a perfect time to go kayaking on the river.

Now we are having a heat wave. With no wind the ocean looks like a lake. Locals went diving for abalone today and tomorrow looks ideal too.

Thanks to Peggy for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

Last week Friends of the Gualala River and I hosted Gualala River Sightings at the Gualala Arts Center. People were invited to send in their favorite photos of our favorite wild river and its environs. Over 120 photos were sent in. I'm happy to be able to share the winning photographs with you.

Best above the river was taken by Peggy Berryhill:

Best in the river was taken by Rozann Grunig- kayaking under a full moon.

Best alongside the river (micro) was taken by Bryant Hichwa - icy morning leaves:

I will share more of the award winning photographs with you tomorrow. Many thanks to the talented photographers here
