Mary Sue Ittner photographed these Coast Lilies, Lilium maritimum, on the Point Arena-Stornetta Lands recently.

These native wildflowers are endemic to the north coast of California, from San Francisco north. So we appreciate these lovely flowers even more. They should never be picked, as the flower head turns into a seed pod. Just enjoy their beauty if you are fortunate enough to see some.

Thanks to Mary Sue for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

It is another glorious day on the Mendonoma coast. It's the perfect time to explore the Point Arena-Stornetta Lands. Bonney Ely was there recently and captured this beautiful sight from the Lands of the Point Arena Lighthouse.

Wildflowers are beautiful now too. It's hard to go wrong when it's springtime on the coast!

Thanks to Bonnie for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

We soared past 50 inches of rain at our place in Anchor Bay. That's our average rainfall for the entire year! So it's not a surprise that waterfalls would be flowing beautifully now. Mel Smith took a hike on the Point Arena-Stornetta Lands recently and photographed this waterfall.

Mel was out on a rare sunny day, as we've had storm after storm roll in. This weekend is predicted to be sunny and mild, a perfect time to visit the coast. To find this waterfall, here is a link to a previous post with directions: http://www.mendonomasightings.com/2011/06/15/a-hidden-waterfall-on-the-stornetta-public-lands-in-mendocino-county/

Peter Cracknell spotted this Coyote at the Point Arena-Stornetta Lands. We don't see many Coyotes on the coast.

One of my favorite photos of a Coyote was taken some years ago by Pepe Alvarez.

Thanks to Peter and Pepe for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

Laura Bridge came across this unusual sight while hiking at the Point Arena-Stornetta Lands when she came to a seasonal creek. Laura thinks someone positioned to Kelp to spout water.

A funny sighting for you. We are having another big storm today. With the ground saturated, all the rain is runoff, and there is lots of minor flooding going on here. Rick and I hiked down to look at Quinliven Creek late this morning and it was scary to behold. Muddy, fast - it would be dangerous to get too close today!
