Carol Hofer enjoyed a recent visit to the Point Arena Lighthouse. Locals, like Carol, and visitors climb the Lighthouse tower for unparalleled views. Carol took a photo from a different viewpoint, however. Her photo shows a sea of yellow flowers, members of the Aster family, and the Lighthouse behind. Just beautiful, almost like a painting.

Thanks to Carol for allowing me to share her photo with you here. To learn more about the Lighthouse, here's the link: http://www.pointarenalighthouse.com/

As part of Point Arena's annual Flower Power Festival and the Wind & Whale Celebration, giant kites filled the air courtesy of Berkeley Kite Wranglers. Margaret Lindgren photographed a few of them.

It was a weekend filled with fun. And there is usually plenty of wind out on the point where the Lighthouse sits so kite flying is a perfect activity. Margaret has more photos of the kites on her blog. You can see them at her website: www.unbeatenpath.weebly.com Thanks to Margaret for allowing me to share her fun photos with you here.

Visitors from around the world visit the Point Arena Lighthouse. It's one of the jewels of the Coast. Recently Rick and I revisited the Lighthouse and visitor center. Oh boy, did we have a beautiful day for our visit.

In the visitor center/museum you can learn about the history of the Lighthouse and the magnificent Fresnel lens. Here Bill Brown, aka Lighthouse Willie, shows us the lens that used to be at the top of the Lighthouse.

The display gives more information on the custom lens. Every Lighthouse had a different light so captains could tell which Lighthouse they were passing.

The stairs up to the top of the lighthouse are steep and winding but there are several platforms to catch your breath.

And you will need your breath for the views!  Below Ron LeValley photographed the crater known as Devil's Punch Bowl.

Pamela Fitzgerald recently photographed a rare fog bow over one of the buildings at the Point Arena Lighthouse.

The Lighthouse bluffs and the Lighthouse tower are some of the best places on the Mendonoma Coast for whale watching and observing seabird migration. There are several rental units there. You can learn more at: http://www.pointarenalighthouse.com/

One of my favorite photos of the Lighthouse was taken at night by Sus Susalla. Here is the link: http://www.mendonomasightings.com/2012/08/21/nocturnal-view-of-the-point-arena-lighthouse-as-photographed-by-sus-susalla/

A Long-tailed Weasel has taken up residence close to one of the rental units at the Point Arena Lighthouse. Dennis Latona was staying there recently and captured these photos.

Weasels are aggressive carnivores. They also have great agility and determination. They look cute, but they are fierce. Rodents are their prey but they will go after many critters, including snakes and birds.

Thanks to Dennis for allowing me to share his photos with you here. To see Dennis' beautiful nature photography, here's the link to his web site: http://www.pinenutz.com/
