Gray Fox kits are among the cutest of babies here on the Mendonoma Coast. Perry Hoffman recently found a den and patiently waited for over an hour for a sighting. Then he spent another hour photographing the action. The kits seem to play all day long!

And here's a photo of mom! Isn't she beautiful?

I love Gray Fox kits so much I chose Craig Tooley's photo of one for the cover of my book, Mendonoma Sightings Throughout the Year!

Thanks to Perry for allowing me to share his photos with you here. There will be another of Perry's photos of these kits in this week's Independent Coast Observer. To see much more of Perry's photography, here is the link to his website: https://magentaraven.com/

It's hot today! The predicted heatwave arrived. At dawn it was 65 degrees. It's in the high eighties this afternoon. And yesterday morning it rained a bit - talk about weather whiplash!

Perry Hoffman photographed this Pigeon Guillemot, and it looks like he is dancing.

But I read on the Cornell Lab of Ornithology site, http://www.allaboutbirds.org that male Pigeon Guillemots march around a female showing off their orange/red feet! What better way to display them by jumping up in the air.

Pigeon Guillemots have a high-pitched call which you can listen to here: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Pigeon_Guillemot/sounds

It's so very lovely here today, Friday May 10. Yesterday was downright toasty, but today is cooler, with temps in the low 70's and no wind!

I love this photo of the Bobcat lurking...or resting...in the grasses that Perry Hoffman got. Those are hypnotic eyes!

After a while, the Bobcat was on the move. You can see the tufted ears in Perry's photo.

Bobcats are year round residents of the Mendonoma Coast. They usually hunt rodents in grassy meadows as Perry's photos show.

Today has been stormy and cold. In the 5 o'clock hour this Friday morning we had lightning and thunder out over the Pacific Ocean. It's very cold - well, cold for the Mendonoma Coasts - 43 degrees. Therefore we didn't get as much rain as predicted. About 2/3 of an inch. With the 1.43 inches from the previous storm, I'm now over 54 inches for the season. Hooray!

Perry Hoffman was photographing out at the Point Arena-Stornetta Lands when this Bobcat appeared.

You can see the tufted tail that gives the Bobcat its name. And there is a black tip on the short tail. There looks to be gopher holes in the meadows there. Bobcats are excellent gopher hunters!

The rains have left and today was simply stunning. Cool but beautiful. This weekend is forecast to be sunny and warmer! I lost power during last Sunday's storm and just got it back on last night, Thursday night. Other coast residents are still waiting for needed repairs to the electrical system. This weather should certainly help.

We've had stormy weather which often brings rainbows. Perry Hoffman captured magic with his photo of a rainbow over the Pacific Ocean. You'd have to swim to get that pot of gold!

Paul Brewer photographed this big rainbow in Gualala.

Chris Braley may have photographed the same rainbow as Paul but she was at the Gualala River, on the Gualala Bluff Trail.

It's always a treat to see rainbows! Thanks to Perry, Chris and Paul for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

At Rick's and my place in Anchor Bay, we received 2.75 inches of rain from the storm. 23.96 season to date. Seasonal creeks are roaring today! It's a great time to look for waterfalls.
