Professional photographer, Paul Kozal, wouldn't miss the opportunity to photograph the night sky this week. The Perseid Meteor Showers, the absence of the moon, and the Milky Way shining bright in the sky was too tempting to resist. A meteor streaks across the sky to the right of the Milky Way, an incredible sight.

Perseid Meteor Shower and the Milky Way by Paul Kozal  I asked Paul how he took this photo. He wrote, 'One exposure, 30 seconds with light painting on the oak tree, taken off of Tin Barn Road."

Paul stopped along Highway One to capture this photo.

Paul Kozal's night sky photography is a joy to behold. He just captured this photo of Sea Cove on The Sea Ranch and the Milky Way.

Just beautiful! We have a lack of light pollution here on the Mendonoma Coast, which is to be treasured. And it allows talented photographers to get photos like this one.

Paul Kozal was out recently photographing the waves at Walk On Beach, one of the public access trails on The Sea Ranch. Here is what he captured:

Many Mendonoma residents went to the ridge to view the eclipse of the moon, Rick and me included. It was wonderful to see the red moon rising in the eastern sky. Paul Kozal captured this evocative photo of the event.

It was quite a spectacle with the moon being full. It was a Super Moon because the moon is closest to earth right now. It was a Harvest Moon because it was the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox. And it was also a Blood Moon - quite an event!

I have a treat for you. Paul Kozal recently photographed the Milky Way from a sea cave. This is the magnificent result:

We are blessed with a lack of light pollution here on the Mendonoma Coast. The Sea Ranch, in fact, does not allow much outdoor lighting. Without light pollution, the sky is alive with stars and planets...and galaxies!

I will have another Milky Way photo to share with you tomorrow, this one by Paul Brewer. Aren't we lucky these talented photographers are willing to share their work?
