Paul Kozal loves photographing the night sky. Each photo is just spectacular. Here's one Paul took of the Milky Way from Cooks Beach, which is at the north end of Gualala. He got a streak of a meteor in this photo too.

Shouqin Huo wrote me last Friday,  "I caught something strange on the camera in Irish Beach last night, Thursday. It might be a meteor burning up. Whatever it was, it was close. You can hear two sonic booms in the video."

If so, it would be a meteorite. What do you think? If you can't open the short video, I believe I can email it to you. It's only four seconds long.

Thanks to Paul for allowing me to share his beautiful photo with you here. To see much more of Paul's art, here is his website: https://www.paulkozal.com/

And thanks to Shouqin for sharing his video!

Paul Kozal wrote, "Here is the photo of Shell Beach [off The Sea Ranch] and Comet. In the middle of the photo is Venus setting with its reflection in the water. The photo was taken on 10/19/24 at 8:50pm."

Paul didn't even mention the Milky Way! And I love the reflection of Venus on the ocean. Yes, Paul is a professional! His studio, Studio 391, is in Gualala, in the Cypress Center. Here is a link to Paul's website: https://www.paulkozal.com/

Lots of overhead clouds are giving us beautiful sunrises and sunsets! Temps around 60. Lots of mushrooms are up!

October 11th and 12th saw the Northern Lights appearing off the Mendonoma Coast. Paul Kozal was at the ready!

Paul went to the White Barn at The Sea Ranch. Along with the Northern Lights, he photographed the setting Moon and the Milky Way. Yes, Paul is an over-achiever! And we're all thankful for that. Such beauty!

We had some rain showers this morning and beautiful rainbows too. This afternoon it's sunny with some clouds and a chill wind. The forest smells wonderful from yesterday's rain. A little over 1/4 inches. More to come!

Comet Tsuchinshan–ATLAS made its debut in the night sky beginning last Sunday. Photos of the comet came in from various talented photographers. They were taken in different locations on the Mendonoma Coast. Here is Janet McElroy’s photo. I so enjoyed seeing Fred McElroy in the side of her photo looking at the comet through his spotting scope.

Paul Kozal got his customary awesome photo of the comet

Neil Silverman also photographed the comet, and I believe he used his iPhone.

Tomorrow I will share a few more, including Shari Goforth's which shows the faint anti-tail.

This particular comet isn't scheduled to do another flyby here for 80,000 years - amazing! Of course it may dissolve in the ensuing years.

Thanks to Janet, Paul and Neil for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

Some clouds have arrived and temps are in the high 60's and no wind. It's a beautiful autumn day.

Bonus sighting: Last night, Sat. Oct. 19,  I witnessed one of the best green flashes I've ever seen - it was a triple green flash, one after the other.

Last week skies were clear for watching the Perseid Meteor Shower. Paul Kozal outdid himself with this photo of the Milky Way and a streaking meteor on the right.

Paul took this photo at Cooks Beach, a lovely pocket beach just north of Gualala. To learn more about this beach, here is the Redwood Coast Land Conservancy's website: https://rclc.org/cooks-beach/

Today has been warm with no wind, a beautiful day on the Mendonoma Coast!
