Paul Brewer photographed virga, rain evaporating before it hits the ground, or in this case, hits the Pacific Ocean!

There were rare evening rainbows, which Paul also photographed.

I have many more photos of last Sunday's event and I'll share some more tomorrow.

Thanks to Paul for allowing me to share his photos with you here. Many of Paul's nature photos are on display at the Dolphin Gallery in Gualala. It's directly across from Trinks restaurant.

Mild and quite windy on the bluffs today, warm when you get away from the ocean.

Somewhere on the Mendonoma Coast, there is a Barn Owl family. Paul Brewer, sworn to secrecy about the location, was invited to photograph the chicks. He shared this photo with Sightings.

Looking closely at Paul’s photo, you can see bits of down, white fluff, on its head and shoulders, but the owlet has a heart-shaped face and its flight feathers can be seen. I think he/she is about seven weeks old. At this age, the owlet will be flapping its wings to get ready to take its first flight soon.

Barn Owls don't hoot - they scream. If you'd like to hear their call, here is a link to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Barn_Owl/sounds If you have pets, keep the volume low!

Thanks to Paul for allowing me to share his photo with you here. When you are in Gualala, stop in at The Dolphin, which is across from Trink's. Many of Paul's nature photographs are on display there.

oh my, it's a lovely day here today. No wind and mild temps. There is a fog bank forming over the ocean, so perhaps this warm weather won't last long.

I love flickers and see them often alongside the road where I live in Anchor Bay, near a neighbor's spring box. These woodpeckers feed mostly on the ground as they eat ants,  beetles, and other insects. Paul Brewer caught a male Northern Flicker in flight, a beautiful sight to behold.

It's clear and sunny today, with a quiet ocean. That means great visibility for spotting Gray Whales on their northward migration.

Paul wrote last Thursday, "Beautiful waves all day but awful windy to try to photograph. I braved the wind this evening and thought you might enjoy seeing what the wind brought us. However, hope the wind is gone tomorrow."

Wish I had a recording to share with you, as the waves were booming - oh, the sound was so loud! It felt like the Mendonoma Coast was shaking from the force of those waves.

We have one more storm coming in tomorrow, Wednesday, a smaller storm. After that the weather is forecast to be storm-free for the next seven days. We need to dry out a bit. I've recorded 43.65 inches in our gauge, season to date. A "normal" winter at Rick's and my place in Anchor Bay is 50 inches. So we are having a heck of a winter so far!

The last sunset of 2022 was so beautiful. The colors started out orange and yellow, and then morphed into pink and purple. Paul Brewer took this photo showing the Gualala River in the foreground, the sandbar, and the Pacific Ocean behind it.

Tricia Schuster took her photo from The Sea Ranch, perhaps a few minutes earlier than Paul's photo.

Pure loveliness! Thanks to Paul and Tricia for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

We had a short rainstorm today, but it dropped quite a bit of rain, over a half inch. A big storm is coming in Wednesday, a river of rain event. Wow!
