Paul Brewer has been photographing an Osprey nest up-river from Jenner. One day the father returned with nest materials instead of a fish.

In the photo below, doesn't it look like the baby and the mother on the right are glaring at the dad? "Where's our food?!?"

Thanks to  Paul for allowing me to share his photos with you here. I've got several more of Paul's wonderful photos to share with you in the days to come. To see much more of Paul's photography, here's his website: http://www.capturingnatureswonders.com/

Up river from the town of Jenner in Sonoma County is an Osprey nest. This year only one chick was born. Paul Brewer watched the nest for some hours several times of the past couple of weeks. Here's a photo of the newborn chick with its mother.

Paul had to wait quite a while last week to get some photos of the Dad bringing home the "bacon." Below the mother and chick are waiting...and waiting.

Below you will see the Dad arriving with dinner.

And here the young Osprey is about to be fed.

And Paul titled the photo below, "Open wide!"

Brown Pelicans are on the move. The first adults have been seen over the past two weeks. Just yesterday, Rick and I saw several flocks fly by when we were at Gualala Point Regional Park getting a geology lesson from Ken Browning. I'll be sharing some of what we learned in a later post.

The first Brown Pelicans spotted are adults. One of the indicators is that their head is white. Paul Brewer photographed one of the first to be seen on April 30.

We particularly cherish these birds because they were so severely impacted by the pesticide DDT that they landed on the Endangered Species List. DDT was banned in the US in 1973 and Brown Pelicans have slowly added to their numbers. They recovered enough to be taken off the Endangered Species List in 2009.
Hooray for the Brown Pelicans!

The Osprey nest that we can see with the help of our spotting scope is officially occupied. The female is sitting on the nest, presumably on eggs. Her mate will be hunting for the both of them.

Paul Brewer recently photographed this Osprey on the hunt.

These photos are so beautiful. On March 23 we had such an unusual cloud show in the west and a magnificent rainbow formed inland. Paul Brewer photographed the rainbow over Gualala. It looks like a magical land.

And George Bush photographed it just as the sun was setting from The Sea Ranch.

You can see the setting sun reflected on the houses below. Quite a beautiful event!
