We've had lot of wind and no fog here on the Mendonoma Coast. Last Thursday we had some high clouds that gave us a beautiful sunset. Paul Brewer photographed the sunset from the banks of the Gualala River.
The Gualala River looks pink and mauve with the clouds reflected off of it. Just beautiful.

Paul Brewer has been photographing the northward migration of mother Gray Whales with their calves. They have really be putting on a show! This first photo was taken Wednesday, May 21st. A Gray Whale calf breaches - always a breathtaking moment.

Most days this past week Gray Whale mothers with calves have been spotted. They are quite close in. Paul Brewer recently photographed two mother/calf pairs. This is, I believe, a calf as there are no barnacles on it.

Oh, to live where Ospreys choose to nest is such a joy. On March 10th the first Ospreys, males, returned to the Mendonoma Coast. Paul Brewer photographed one of the first ones. The Osprey has nabbed a Seaperch.
And as of Sunday some females have arrived. There is a nest to our west that we can watch through our scope. Sure enough, a male and a female were seen. It will be fun to watch them work on rebuilding the nest, mating and hopefully starting a new family.
