Paul Brewer caught these beautiful Anna's hummingbirds just as they were about to feed.

I think of these tiny birds as living jewels. They feed on nectar - if you plant it, they will come!

Paul Brewer takes the most beautiful sunrise and sunset photos. Here is one he took near Jenner showing the Russian River with the town on the right and the Pacific Ocean in the distance.

I have had numerous sightings of a Bald Eagle in the Jenner area and, in fact, I saw one at the mouth of the Russian River last week. But this is the first photo I've seen of a pair, presumably a mated pair. Paul Brewer recently photographed these two adult Bald Eagles.

They were feasting on a fish. We have high hopes that we will have a nesting pair of Bald Eagles on the Mendonoma Coast.

Even though we have had no rain for two weeks, there have been clouds that drifted up from the south. Yesterday morning, Rick and I were headed down the coast early and the sunrise reflected in the clouds was amazing.

Sunsets have been beautiful too, and it seems like no two sunsets are quite the same. Just like snowflakes! Paul Brewer got this beautiful photo recently. You can see there was a low tide.

And Allen Vinson photographed a spectacular sunset too.

Winter is a good time for spotting hawks. Where there are open meadows, you can often spot a hawk sitting on top of a telephone pole looking for its next meal.

Paul Brewer spotted this Hawk, just as it took flight. It is a immature Red-shouldered Hawk, a hawk of the forest.

Red-shouldered Hawks are found where there are tall trees and water, and they are year round residents of the Mendonoma Coast. Their call is a plaintive whistle. If you'd like to hear it, here is the link to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Red-shouldered_Hawk/sounds
