Ron LeValley spotted what he believes was a young Elephant Seal molting.

Ron reports that the seal left after three days on the beach.

Here's a male Elephant Seal - notice the big proboscis [snout]! - seen some years ago north of Anchor Bay. Frank Jackson got this photo. I hope he used his long lens, as it isn't a good idea to get close to one of these big guys. They can move surprisingly fast when they want to!

Thanks to Ron and Frank for allowing me to share their photos with you here. To see much more of Ron's nature photography, here is the link to his website: http://levalleyphoto.com/home/

Ron LeValley was up early to capture the morning light, clouds and the waves at the Little River Headlands.

It's a mystical look, isn't it? And here is a photo Ron took a few years ago just at sunset, with the waves back-lit by the setting sun.

I thank Ron for allowing me to share his photo with you on this first day of 2017. To see much more of Ron's nature photography, here is the link to his website: http://levalleyphoto.com/home/

Last week Ron LeValley was called by a friend to come look at a pod of Orcas. There was a bell buoy with two CA Sea Lions on it, which is what attracted the Orcas. Orcas LOVE to eat Sea Lions. The first photo shows the small pod, with a juvenile on the lower left. In the second and third photos an Orca approaches the buoy where a doomed Sea Lion waits. The last photo shows the Orca has nabbed its meal.

It is said nature is cruel. I submit nature is always busy.  And everything has to eat.

Ron LeValley was at the right place at the right time to capture this wave action at the Little River Headlands in Mendocino.

It looks like the exuberant wave is going in two directions!

Ron LeValley photographed a beautiful wave from the Little River Headlands in Mendocino County. When he looked at his photo he saw a woman in the wave with magnificent hair. Can you see her?
