Here's one of my favorite photos of a Grevy's Zebra baby with its mother at the preserve. The young zebra had just seen a gopher pop up and couldn't believe what it just saw! This photo was taken by Craig Tooley.

Mark Simkins and Kitty Wolfe have meadows around their Manchester home. Kitty says they have millions of gopher - yes, that is just an estimate. Bobcats LOVE gophers and can be seen hunting their favorite prey regularly. Mark recently got these photos.

Bobcats are often seen in the daytime here, though they are supposed to be nocturnal. They are agile hunters. Here is one of my favorite photos of one climbing the very high fence at the B. Bryan Preserve in Point Arena, photo taken by Judy Mello.

A male Grevy's Zebra recently was born at the B. Bryan Preserve in Point Arena. Meet Lester!

His mother's name is Jewel and she carried him for more than a year. Below her little one is nursing.

Judy Mello tells me that these Zebras are more endangered than Black Rhinos - there are less then 3000 of Grevy's Zebras left in the wilds. So each addition to the herd in Point Arena is welcome news indeed.

Do you know what a herd of Zebras is called? A dazzle.

Judy Mello wrote, “This is a Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra. This species of zebra is on the endangered species list, with less than 6,000 left in the world. She/he already has its dewlap under its neck and the classic zipper pattern on its tail.” It looks like Mom is keeping a close eye on her little one.

Several more births are expected this summer at the preserve and several more animals will be joining the herd from San Diego Safari Park in June.

A visit to B. Bryan Preserve in Point Arena would be a unique thing to do. By reservation you can be there when the animals are being fed. They also have several guest cottages for rent. The B. Bryan Preserve has welcomed their first giraffes - two young male Rothschild Giraffes. They come from the San Diego Zoo. Several more arrived last Thursday.

Here is one of the first arrivals. He weighs over 1300 pounds. So beautiful and so unique. There are less than seven hundred of these giraffes left in the wild.
