Several people have sent in photos of CA Quail chicks. One is Craig Tooley.

And Jon Loveless saw a family too. I count 11 balls of feathers. Jon said there were 13 in all.

Here's a close-up of a male by Michael Reinhart. Such beautiful birds...

Thanks to Craig, Jon and Michael for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

Drippy fog this morning has evolved into brilliant sunshine this afternoon. Summer on the Mendonoma Coast!

Jon Loveless captured this beautiful sight, the nearly-full Moon shining low in the night sky.

Jon took this photo from The Sea Ranch. Just lovely. Doesn't it make you relax just to see it?

Thanks to Jon for allowing me to share his photo with you here.

Sunny and warm temps are what we are experiencing today. Last Saturday over 100 Risso's Dolphins swam by. They were seen by whale watchers Scott and Tree Mercer, a fun and exciting sighting.

Spring doesn't know...

Ken Hofer photographed the moon painting a path across the ocean.

And Jon Loveless photographed this beautiful sight from his home on The Sea Ranch.

Thanks to Ken and Jon for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

Our beautiful coast has been shrouded in heavy smoke from the terrible fires in Butte County. Today has been very tough, especially those with respiratory issues. Here's a photo I took yesterday late afternoon at the Point Arena Lighthouse of the smoke pouring westward.

We have hopes that an onshore breeze will appear later today. Pray for rain for all who are impacted by wildfires.

Sometimes you almost can't believe your eyes - the sunset is that beautiful. Tricia Schuster photographed a recent sunset with the sky turning the most amazing colors.

Her husband, Jon Loveless, also photographed a beauty.

These sunbeams shining through the clouds are sometimes called God's rays. It's quite dramatic to see them.

And now we head into November. We are experiencing warm, Indian Summer days right now. Even though the weather is sublime, we know changes are ahead.

Thanks to Tricia and Jon for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

After a hiatus of several years, Red Sea Urchins have once again been harvested and brought to the Point Arena Pier. Michael Alexander photographed the first ones destined for sushi chefs here and in Japan that feature uni, the gonads of Red Sea Urchins.

It's not easy to harvest them. A diver will work with a partner on a boat, and stay underwater for several hours at a time collecting them. It's hard work!

These are not to be confused with the Purple Sea Urchins that have proliferated in recent years due to the Sea Stars contracting a wasting disease - Sea Stars prey on Sea Urchins. The purples, unchecked, have eaten much of the kelp, causing some Abalones to starve. Here's what they look like, photographed by Jon Loveless.

Sea Stars have recovered this year and we hope balance will return to the inter-tidal zone.

Thanks to Michael and Jon for allowing me to share their photos with  you here. We are having another lovely, warm day on the Mendonoma coast.
