Janet Pierucci found this spiderweb adorned with the morning mist - spiderweb jewels.

Jim Corbett wrote, “Down by Anchor Bay beach, I happened to be in the right light this morning to appreciate this beautiful spider’s web that’s connected to a lemon tree and patio cover. It bends to the breezes off the beach and catches goodies along the way; a tiny ecosystem at work.”

The ability to create a web from a substance in their body, and the web then catches their food, is quite amazing. Mother Nature must rate spiders high on her list.

Thanks to Janet and Jim for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

It's sunny and breezy today. Warm temps are predicted for Tuesday through Thursday. Our typical September heatwave. Bonus sightings: Humpback Whales have been seen off the Mendonoma Coast for the past several days!

Jim Corbett photographed the sun-loving California Sea Lion. The Sea Lion looks pretty happy there on the breakwater.

Rebecca Stanley found a Sea Lion pup in distress. He was huddled up against a driftwood structure on the beach at Irish Beach. Poor little fellow.

Rebecca did the correct thing - she called the Marine Mammal Center (415)289-7325). They sent a trained local to assess the situation. The decision was to take the sick pup to the Marine Mammal Center. He has been named Qi. He was separated from his mother and very malnourished. He will likely be at the Center for several months and then hopefully released back to sea. You can check on Qi at: http://www.marinemammalcenter.org/

Another beautiful sunny day here, but that is about to change as a series of storms is headed our way!

Once again the beauty of a sunset took our breath away. Christmas day's sunset was amazing.

The Pacific Ocean glowed a beautiful pink and then mauve as the sunset evolved.

A nice “Merry Christmas” greeting came in from Anchor Bay Campground residents, Jim Corbett and Sheila Shapiro. I titled Sheila’s photo “Nature’s Christmas tree,” as it is made of driftwood, abalone shells, beach glass and other shells.

Thanks to Sheila for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

We are having lovely weather here on the Mendonoma Coast. And there are lots of visitors here to enjoy the balmy days. Gray Whales, heading south, are being seen. The best place to watch their migration is from the bluffs of the Point Arena Lighthouse.
