Peggy Berryhill noticed this beat-up Pale Swallowtail. Something took a couple of bites out of its wings, but it lived to feed on these sweet flowers.

And Jackie Baas found a Painted Lady, also a little worse for wear.

If these butterflies could talk, what a tale they might tell us!

Thanks to Peggy and Jackie for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

Yesterday, Monday, it was very warm, hitting 90 degrees at Rick's and my place in Anchor Bay. Overnight the blessed fog rolled in and this morning it was 52 degrees. That's weather whip-lash!

Jackie Baas found the first Boletus edulis, King bolete, of the season about two weeks ago. Here's the beauty that popped up in an area she has never found one before.first-boletus-edulis-of-the-season-by-jackie-baasSince then we've had more rain and now the King boletes are abundant. Irma Brandt found a very fertile area last week.

I spotted the first Fly amanitas two days ago, and two Coccoras are peeking up under the duff in our forest. Tiny mushrooms are appearing in masses. Oh, it's so fun to have this early rain and have the mushrooms appear!

Named the McCabe Tree, this old growth Redwood is difficult to find. It sits on private land so perhaps you should just enjoy Rob Elder's photo. Rob and Jackie Baas recently made the trek to find this beautiful tree.

Here you will see Jackie in front of this tree. They can live for several thousands of year and they are to be cherished. Tomorrow I will show you a photo of one near our property that was sparred the loggers' axes because it grew twisted.

Thanks to Rob for sharing his photo with us here.
