Michael Reinhart was out photographing nature when he noticed this Harbor Seal surface near some kelp.

The Harbor Seal seems to be looking right at Mike! Harbor Seals are year round residents of the Mendonoma Coast.

Sara Bogard has been studying the Harbor Seals off the Point Arena Lighthouse Peninsula and adjoining Point Arena-Stornetta Lands. She will be giving a presentation entitled “Seals Beside Us” at the Point Arena Lighthouse, September 21st from 4-5pm. That's this Saturday! Cost is $5.00.

Thanks to Mike for allowing me to share his photo with  you here!

Very foggy close to the bluffs, but sunny up on the ridge. Cool temps, 60's.

This photograph exudes bliss! Michael Reinhart found a Harbor Seal pup nursing while his/her mother rests with her eyes closed.

It's a peaceful moment that Michael chronicled. Thanks to Michael for allowing me to share his photo with you here.

This morning we had some serious downpours! There was a good half inch of rain in our gauge when I checked this morning at 7. And it's chilly! It was 41 degrees at dawn with a breeze. Dark and white clouds seem to chasing each other across the sky this afternoon. A shower could happen any time but between showers we are having brilliant sunshine. A wait-five-minutes kind of day.

Phil Lewenthal wrote, "This is a long exposure photo of a Harbor Seal basking on the rocks at Sea Ranch that I came across on a walk along the bluff.”

I love this photo - it could be a painting.

Thanks to Phil for allowing me to share his photo with you here.

It's a lovely, breezy day on the Mendonoma Coast today.

Oh my, it's hot on the Mendonoma Coast, way too hot. This Harbor Seal knows how to relax and cool off at the same time. Sara Bogard photographed this contented Harbor Seal off the Point Arena Lighthouse bluffs.

shhh, I think I can hear this seal snoring...

Thanks to Sara for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

Yes, it's a cooker here. 80+ degrees right at the ocean, and at our house in Anchor Bay it has hit 100+ degrees. The heat wave is suppose to break tomorrow. I wouldn't mind if it broke this afternoon! Begone, heat wave! For those who love hot weather, this is your time!

On a recent bluff walk on The Sea Ranch with Rick and friends, I spotted this blissful Harbor Seal stretched out on the rocks.

I took this photo with my super zoom, but the seal obviously heard us.

Hello, relaxed Harbor Seal! We sure didn't mean to disturb your rest.

Here's a fun fact: A Harbor Seal can dive 300 feet deep, and stay underwater up to 28 minutes!

It's sunny and quite warm today. There was a thin layer of smoke visible above the horizon during last night's sunset. But no discernible smoke from the inland fires today. Nothing but blue skies, at least in Anchor Bay and Gualala today.  ***UPDATE: 5:15 pm. Several hours ago smoke began to flow over the Mendonoma coast. We hope the winds will shift direction but for now it is hot and smoky here.
