This Black Bear was recently photographed on the Gualala ridge by a Nest camera. They live here too, and we need to learn how to peacefully share the Mendonoma Coast.

This photo is from a video of Kathy Willem's Nest camera.

Thanks to Kathy for allowing me to share a photo from her video.

It's windy, cold, with rain showers...kind of feels like winter!

Just in time for Autumn, Monarch Butterflies are beginning to grace us with their presence. They travel here to feed before their long migration southward. Paul Brewer recently photographed several in his Gualala garden.

See the two black dots on the Monarch on the left, on his lower wings? That tells you it's a male.

These Monarchs are the Methuselah generation, the long-lived generation that makes the fall migration.

Thanks to Paul for allowing me to share his photos with you here. You can see Paul's nature photographs displayed at the Gualala Arts Dolphin Gallery. Here's the link to their website: https://gualalaarts.org/dolphin-gallery/

The day started out partly-sunny, but for the first time in weeks, smoke has drifted down from the fires in far northern California and Oregon.

A different kind of sighting for you today. I want to tell you about the Ernest Bloch Bell Ringers. We are a group of twelve ringers, and a conductor - me! We invite other musicians to join us - singers such as Sita Milchev and Remi Alexander, and players of various instruments such as hammered dulcimer played by Dan Laux, shakuhachi, Japanese flute, played by Karl Young, clarinet played by Eric Kritz, and recorders played by Cyndy Solomon and Mary Visher. There's something for everyone at our concert and it's this Sunday, June 9th at Gualala Arts, 4 pm. I'm on the left in the blue blouse.

Our concert is a benefit for Coastal Senior's Meals on Wheels, a most righteous that does tremendous good in our community. To learn more about our concert, here is the link to Gualala Arts: http://gualalaarts.org/2019/06/the-ernest-bloch-bell-ringers-and-friends-in-concert/

If you are here on the Mendonoma coast, I hope you will plan to come and see us perform. And I'd love to meet you, so come up afterwards!

Our first heat wave of the year is here. Of course a heat wave on the coast doesn't compare to inland temps. When we get close to 80 degrees we are having a heat wave! Allen Vinson photographed a Harbor Seal that looks pretty darn happy.

Lots of visitors are already here and more are sure to come with the big Gulf of the Farallones Sanctuary expansion celebration on Sunday at Gualala Arts. 11 am to 3 pm and the event is free. Plenty of kid-friendly activities too.

Thanks to Allen for allowing me to share his fun photo with you here.
