Gray Foxes are year round residents of the Mendonoma Coast. John Batchelder recently photographed one showing off its beautiful long tail.

Gail Spencer photographed this Gray Fox relaxing in the sun. Gray Foxes are suppose to be nocturnal but they are often seen in the daylight hours here on the Mendonoma Coast.

Gray Foxes have a raspy bark for their call - it is quite distinctive. And they are year round residents here.

I imagine that this fox is seeking the shade today, as we are in the middle of a heat wave. Even at the bluff edge it is warm today.

Thanks to Gail for allowing me to share her photo with you here.

Pat Killen found a family of Gray Fox kits exploring a neighbor's property. The mother climbed up on what looks like a hot tub enclosure while two of her little kits tried to reach her. One successfully climbed up as you will see in the second photo.

Ken Bailey photographed a Gray Fox, noticing that its ears were very tattered. I do not know how this could happen and I've never seen it before. Perhaps you have a theory.

Perhaps this is a very old fox and has been through a battle or two.

It's a wonderful time of year when the Gray Fox kits arrive. Cathleen Crosby is one lucky gal as she has a den near her home. The Gray Fox mother and father have provided her with some great photo ops. In this first photo the Fox was "talking" to her.

Gray Foxes have a raspy barking call that is quite unique to them. The first time I heard their call, I grabbed my camera and hurried too fast down my garden steps. After I dusted myself off from the fall, I got to see my quarry - a beautiful Gray Fox.

Thanks to Cathleen for allowing me to share her photos with you here. I'll be sharing photos of the kits soon.
