Mary Sue Ittner found Footsteps of Spring, Sanicula arctopoides, blooming on coastal bluffs recently, especially at Salt Point State Park.

Here's a photo Mary Sue took of her friends at the park, hiking through the yellow wildflowers.

And look at those blue skies - they had a perfect morning for their hike.

After Saturday morning's early rain (.15 inch), Sunday is clear and quite windy. The ocean looks like a whirlpool bath according to whale researcher, Shari Goforth-Eby. Hard to see whale spouts with all those whitecaps. Happy first day of Spring if you are in the Northern Hemisphere!

Spring wildflowers continue to appear. Each appearance is like seeing an old friend. Mary Sue Ittner recently photographed Stream Violets, Viola glabella.

Grace O'Malley found Douglas Iris in full bloom, Iris douglasiana.

And Joyce Nugent found Footsteps of Spring, Sanicula arctopoides.

Many others are joining in the chorus of loveliness.

We are having a mix of clouds and sun. And it's warmer today!

Wildflowers are blooming along shady forest paths too. Western Trilliums have begun their bloom.

Redwood Violets, Milk Maids, and the first Redwood Sorrel are also blooming.

A big storm lurks just off the Mendocino/Sonoma Coast. And Spring officially begins tomorrow despite the wintery weather. A small yellow wildflower with the charming name of Footsteps of Spring is blooming in sunny spots, along roads and paths, giving us hope that Spring will soon grace us with warmer weather.
