Young Fawns are being seen, proving that the birthing season of the Black-tailed Deer lasts a long time. The first Fawns usually appear around Mother's Day in early May. Jon Loveless saw this small family recently at The Sea Ranch.

Larain Matheson had a sighting of a mother Doe and her Fawn north of Gualala.

It's a good reminder to slow down while driving. Watch for a Doe crossing the road, and wait to see if a Fawn, or two or even three, might be following.

Thanks to Jon and Larain for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

Fog over the ocean, but sunny at Rick's and my place in Anchor Bay. Breezy too, with temps in the 70's. Huckleberries are beginning to ripen up!

The Doe settled down in a part of the garden where she could dine on some apparently delicious white daisies in comfort. Kevin said he "caught her in the act!"

Fog drifted up this morning but then pulled back to reveal a beautiful June day with no wind.

Grace O'Malley noticed this Doe standing quietly in the grasses, looking at her.

What a beautiful sight, with the Pacific Ocean in the background!

This is the time of year for the rut - the mating season - of the Black-tailed Deer. Bucks have been seen chasing Does, so the game is afoot!

There is a big fog bank at the immediate coast. I can see fog drifting up Fish Rock canyon at times. The temps are in the low 60's today with no wind. Happy Autumn day to you!

Craig Tooley watched these two Deer, a Doe and her yearling, walking over rocks at low tide on April 1st. Craig joked that they might be abalone picking, and that the mother Deer might be named "Jane Doe."

April 1st is usually the opening of Abalone season, but this year the season doesn't open until May 1st.

We have a beautiful day after rain in the early hours. We have had an amazing 73+ inches of rain so far this season.

We share the coast with Black-tailed Deer. They love to eat pretty much anything that grows, even when it is "suppose" to be deer resistant. Betty Bailey found this lovely Doe with a mouthful of her agapanthus.
