Allen Vinson noticed this Common Raven with something in its beak. It turned out to be a bright, red apple. I wonder where this Raven found this apple, which looks to be in perfect condition.

The Raven took the apple to a nearby bluff where he/she ate some of the fruit. Then the bird flew to where its fledgling waited, and proceeded to feed the chick some of the apple.

It's always good to eat fruit and veggies! Allen also took this photo of the beautiful bird in flight.

Thanks to Allen for allowing me to share his photos with you here.

Clouds are pouring in, and the first rain showers have arrived on the Mendonoma Coast around 3:30 this afternoon. Thank you, Mother Nature, for the blessed rain!

Michael Reinhart found a Common Raven eyeing twp Pelagic Cormorant nests with chicks inside.

The Raven swooped down and the cormorants "yelled" at the bird.

The raven had its eye on a nest with a single chick. Look how the mama bird protects her offspring, with her wing spread.

The Raven was unsuccessful on this day, but we know ravens steal a great many cormorant eggs and chicks. It's one of the many reasons we humans shouldn't feed ravens, especially close to the bluff edge. The cormorants are much shyer birds so you don't want to attract ravens to their traditional nesting area.

Thanks to Mike for allowing me to share his dramatic photos.

Another sunny, warm day on the Mendonoma Coast!

Richard Custer has been watching a Raven nest near the Point Arena Lighthouse. Two chicks hatched, and the parents are busy feeding them. Look how hungry these chicks are, and notice the wing feathers coming in.

Here's a beautiful photo of one of the Common Ravens at the Lighthouse, taken by Michael Deligio a few years ago. It kind of looks like a painting!

Thanks to Richard and Michael for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

Wet fog this morning has led to brilliant sunshine this afternoon.

Ferne Fedeli once again found a Common Raven liberating hair from the backside of her donkey. I guess Ferne's donkey has nice soft hair, perfect for lining a nest.

Ron Bolander found this Raven attacking the mirror on a Coastal Seniors' bus.

Sometimes a bird sees its reflection in a mirror or glass and thinks he sees a handsome competitor. Ron tells me they now cover the mirrors with small wastepaper baskets to protect them.

Thanks to Ferne and Ron for allowing me to share their fun photos with you here.

We had a vigorous storm come through overnight, dropping over an inch of much-needed rain. Today is sun-drenched with white, puffy clouds drifting by. Just lovely.

Sara Bogard was doing her weekly Harbor Seal survey at the bluffs near the Point Arena Lighthouse when she saw this Bald Eagle with its dinner. A Common Raven looks on, but this Bald Eagle - like most, I believe - won't share.

One of my favorite photos of the Gualala Bald Eagles is this one taken by Eric Zetterholm.

Thanks to Sara and Eric for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

The storm moved on, leaving us with a breezy, drifting clouds kind of day.

Spring doesn't know...
