Jim Corbett photographed the sun-loving California Sea Lion. The Sea Lion looks pretty happy there on the breakwater.

Rebecca Stanley found a Sea Lion pup in distress. He was huddled up against a driftwood structure on the beach at Irish Beach. Poor little fellow.

Rebecca did the correct thing - she called the Marine Mammal Center (415)289-7325). They sent a trained local to assess the situation. The decision was to take the sick pup to the Marine Mammal Center. He has been named Qi. He was separated from his mother and very malnourished. He will likely be at the Center for several months and then hopefully released back to sea. You can check on Qi at: http://www.marinemammalcenter.org/

Thanks to Jim and Rebecca for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

Another beautiful sunny day here, but that is about to change as a series of storms is headed our way!

Margaret Lindgren has an ideal job. She created the tour company, Unbeaten Path Tours. She loves the Mendonoma coast and gets to see nature up close and personal nearly every day. Recently she led a tour at the Point Arena-Stornetta Lands. Look at the beautiful day they had!

You can see the Lighthouse in the far distance. Margaret also photographed a colony of Brandt's Cormorants. The young ones are the brown ones.

Margaret and her tour also spotted a California Sea Lion, which she said was quite unusual for that particular spot. It was just headed into the water.

The Lands never disappoint - there is always something beautiful and/or interesting to see.

Thanks to Margaret for allowing me to share her photos with you here. To learn more about taking a tour with her - and I highly recommend it! - here is her website: https://www.unbeatenpathtours.com/

We had a nice, drenching rain last night. We received 1.85 inches at our place in Anchor Bay. So far we have received 2.40 inches of rain. Today is warm and humid! Can edible mushrooms be nearly at hand?

Last week Ron LeValley was called by a friend to come look at a pod of Orcas. There was a bell buoy with two CA Sea Lions on it, which is what attracted the Orcas. Orcas LOVE to eat Sea Lions. The first photo shows the small pod, with a juvenile on the lower left. In the second and third photos an Orca approaches the buoy where a doomed Sea Lion waits. The last photo shows the Orca has nabbed its meal.

It is said nature is cruel. I submit nature is always busy.  And everything has to eat.

I thank Ron for allowing me to share his photos with you here. To see much more of Ron's nature photography, here is his website: http://levalleyphoto.com/home/
