Esther Shain recently photographed two butterflies in her garden. First is a Pale Swallowtail.

And a California Sister.

I love butterflies. We see many different kinds here on the Mendonoma coast.

Thanks to Esther for allowing me to share her photos with you here.

It really warmed up today, warm and breezy.

Warm weather brings butterflies aplenty. A beautiful Swallowtail has been flitting around my garden. Robert Van Syoc recently found a lovely Painted Lady.

Here's a Pale Swallowtail. The first photo shows it hitching a ride on Ken Bailey's hood, and the second photo shows the butterfly moving over to Wendy Bailey's shoulder.

Wherever we find them, we love to see butterflies!

Thanks to Robert, Ken, and Wendy for allowing me to share their photos with you here.

Its bloom is just about over but I wanted to share this beautiful member of the Lily family - Ithuriel's Spear, Triteleia laxa. This particular plant is growing next to a neighbor's fence.  Bees and butterflies visit this flower often. It's a California native and it grows from a corm, which is edible.
