When the Pacific Ocean is roiled up, the blowhole at Hearn Gulch erupts with a loud "whoosh!" Debra Mundt recently photographed the blowhole going off.

And here's a nice photo Debra took from the beach, showing the creek emptying into the Pacific Ocean with the blowhole going off in the distance.

Parking for Hearn Gulch is found at mile marker 10.0 in Mendocino County. To learn more about it, and other coastal access points brought to us courtesy of the Redwood Coast Land Conservancy, here is their website: http://www.rc-lc.org/

These late season heat waves make everyone nervous as we wait for the rains to begin in. Before the last hot weather enveloped the coast, Paul Brewer was on the Jenner Grade when he saw this beautiful sight.

You can see the full moon peaking up over the ridge as fog rolls in from the ocean.

Thanks to Paul for allowing me to share his photo with you here. Would you like to see one of my favorite Paul Brewer photos? Paul caught the setting sun shining through the sea tunnel just as the blowhole went off at Hearn Gulch.

Paul sells his work at the Dolphin Gallery in Gualala and other art galleries on the coast. You can see much more of his nature photograph at this site: http://www.capturingnatureswonders.com/

Hearn Gulch is such a beautiful spot, with a sea tunnel and a blowhole. Eric Duff recently photographed the scene at sunset.

Here is a photo Eric took a while ago that shows the sea tunnel with the setting sun shining through it.

And here's a photo of mine of the blowhole in action.

The beauty of Hearn Gulch is something to be savored again and again. Eric Duff visited the lovely pocket beach just before sunset, and you can see the sun shining through the sea tunnel.

There is also a blowhole on the north side, and when the ocean swells begin to build, that's the time to see if the blowhole is in action. Here's a photo I took last month.

On Wednesday we had high surf warnings. So Rick and I, with our golden retriever Sunny, headed for Hearn Gulch to see if the blowhole was in action. It was!
