Bill Oxford was photographing Sea Lions off Biehler Point on The Sea Ranch this past week. There was a group of Sea Lions rafting together nearby. Several peeled off and decided to surf the big waves. The first photo show three Sea Lions. I can almost hear their glee!

Were Sea Lions the first surfers? Could be! But there are other creatures who love to surf, including Bottlenose Dolphins and Western Gulls. And then there are the two-legged variety. Rozanne Rapozo photographed this surfer off the mouth of the Gualala River, not a place we usually see surfers!

Today, 1/31/24 Wednesday, the Mendonoma Coast...and much of California...has been hit by a whopper of a storm. Rain totals vary greatly depending on location. As I type this, Rick's and my gauge is at 3.14 inches and it's still raining. I've had reports of over six inches on the Gualala Ridge. It's a gully washer!

The last evening of August brought a beautiful full moon. It was the second full moon in the month, and thus called a Blue Moon. And it was also a Supermoon. Some of the coast’s best photographers were out to get their photos of this event. Rozanne Rapozo wrote, “ We relocated from Breakers Reach to Gualala Point Regional Park this time to photograph the last Supermoon until September of next year! The weather has been so uncooperative this year that this is the first time I’ve been out photographing at night in ages. Amazing to watch the moon rise above the ridge.” And shine through the Serge at the park!

Bill Oxford also got some great photos. He photographed the large moon framed by trees, and from the bluffs. He wrote, “I shot the Blue Moon at Shell Beach and my backyard in TSR on Wednesday. Had a great time on the bluff finding compositions until 2:00 a.m. I accidentally flushed out some sleeping Deer to their distain and my startled surprise. All good!”

It was cool and foggy this morning, but the sun is breaking through. It doesn't seem to be as smoky today. So far, I haven't smelled smoke. We actually have rain in the forecast for Monday. Wouldn't it be terrific if it rained to our north and helped put out the fires?!

Bill Oxford noticed a low fog approaching the part of The Sea Ranch where he lives. The sunbeams mixed with fog created these lovely photos.

Today the dawn brought...rain! Not a lot, but it's definitely rain, about a tenth of an inch.

It was a stunning day yesterday when Bill Oxford went out to do some videoing. The sunset was stellar too. This was taken at The Sea Ranch.

Bill wrote, "Initially, I was just doing a location-scout with my iPhone and planned to return with my video equipment the next day, but was happy with the footage I got. My purpose was to share on Facebook to encourage people to get outside and let nature re-ground them. The Covid 19 global pandemic is very stressful. Hopefully, this video will help relieve some of that stress and get minds off of the virus for awhile."

The storm that was forecast apparently went to the south of us. So we were gifted with another sunny, warm day. Spring doesn't know...

All these storms have brought big surf. Bill Oxford went out between storms to Black Point Beach on The Sea Ranch. He said the waves were massive.

We had a big storm today, which brought over two inches of rain. And it's still raining this afternoon. The weekend and the first of next week is predicted to be dry, so we will have a chance to dry out.
