Big beautiful waves are crashing against the shore. Craig Tooley was out this morning and photographed the fury.

Craig noticed this Great Blue Heron on top of a tree, watching the waves come in.

Today is a good day to give the Pacific Ocean her due. Never turn your back on the ocean, as we have sleeper waves that can catch people unawares. Also the bluffs crumble so you don't want to stand close to the edge when big waves hit the coast. Just stay back a ways and enjoy the majesty of the Pacific Ocean.

With calm, dry weather forecast the Pacific Ocean will settle down. But with the several storms that hit late last week the ocean was in full voice. Robert Scarola photographed some big waves recently at Gualala Point Regional Park. The couple in the photo had to run from the big surf.

 The couple below is on the sandbar, a dangerous place to be when the Gualala River is running so fast.

The sound and fury of the Pacific Ocean can't be ignored. A big storm off Japan sent huge waves our way. Yesterday was a great day for watching the ocean in her finest. Paul Brewer did just that.

This is extremely high surf for the beach at Gualala Point Regional Park. In the lower photo you can see two Gulls "riding" the wave.

Today is just as exciting, though the surf isn't as dramatic. We have spotted a large pod of Killer Whales headed south. They passed Fish Rocks, which is off Anchor Bay, a little before 3 pm. They are several miles out but great fun to watch through binoculars or a spotting scope. Long lens photographers are on alert and I hope they get some photos that I will be able to share here.

Three big storms, a river of rain, have hit the Mendonoma Coast. Carolyn André, intrepid photographer that she is, braved the second storm to take these photos of the coast of The Sea Ranch.

 The storm coincided with a high tide as you will see below.

 Big waves hit the coast.

At Point Arena Pier there are three red flags posted. No one should be out in this sea except the very big ships.

 Surf's up...or way too dangerous, I believe.

Rick and I live a half mile back from the Pacific Ocean yet the sound of the crashing waves can be heard - and felt - inside our house. The ocean is in full voice and there is no denying its presence. Rich Kuehn photographed waves hitting Gualala Point Island yesterday from his home at The Sea Ranch.
