The storm door was open over the Presidents' Day weekend, bringing wind and rain in great measure. On Monday, during a break in the squalls, Catherine Miller ventured out to Arena Cove where she saw a startling sight. She wrote, “The waterfall at the Point Arena Cove was getting blown upward by the strong winds.”

The term for this is reverse waterfall. It happens when strong winds hit cliffs and drive water upwards, instead of allowing the water to follow its normal course to the Pacific Ocean. It’s quite rare to see this.

Today, Thursday, has been a sunny, clear day but this afternoon clouds are approaching from the north. The predication is for rain beginning tomorrow morning. Here we go again!

When the ocean calms down and does its best imitation of a placid lake, some take to the water to experience ocean kayaking. Catherine Miller and Hal Ferguson did just that recently. Fishing was also involved!

These photos were taken off of Arena Cove. Thanks to Catherine for allowing me to share them with you here.

Joan Hoffman photographed this serene scene.

You can see the fishing boats at rest in Arena Cove. The land to the right is the southern portion of the Point Arena-Stornetta Lands.

Connor Angwin was visiting home recently and found this young Sea Lion in the tide pools at Arena Cove in Point Arena.

Here's what Connor wrote, “Last time I was back home I was at the Point Arena Pier taking some pictures and came across this young Sea Lion taking a dip in the tide pools. I ended up taking a bunch of pictures, but this is my favorite. Living in Los Angeles for the past ten years, I appreciate growing up in Gualala on the north coast that much more.”

Thanks to Connor for allowing me to share his beautiful photo with you here.

After two years of closures and last year's sub par year, it's a joy to report that the fishing for King Salmon has been great off our coast. Jack Likins and Charles Zinser fished out of Arena Cove in Point Arena and look at the big one that didn't get away - 27.5 pounds of beautiful Salmon.

You will see that the two men went out in a Zodiac. And that's sure a happy smile on Charles' face.
