Here on the Mendonoma Coast we celebrate our lack of light pollution. That allows for some wonderful night sky views. Allen Vinson is the latest coast photographer to try his hand at photographing the Milky Way and he got a bonus "shooting star." Allen said this first photo was a 20 second exposure.

Allen took another photo which shows some of The Sea Ranch.

I asked Allen how he photographed this. He wrote,

"The Sea Ranch Lodge is in the lower left.
The photo info is:  ISO 3200, f/2.8, 15 second exposure, 14 mm lens.
I read up on how to photograph the Milky Way, and on a dark night, a 30 second exposure is recommended.  Here, the moon may have been getting close to rising.
Rather than time lapse, which I have used to record the changing clouds every 20 seconds over a 3 hours period so it plays back in just a couple of minutes, this is a long exposure."

Allen Vinson was out with his camera recently and came across this yawning Harbor Seal.

Then this other Harbor Seal seemed to cover its mouth, as if to say "Pardon me!"

It must have been a very relaxing day on the Mendonoma Coast!

Allen Vinson got lucky when this Bobcat strolled by, nicely accented by a Douglas Iris in bloom.

Then the Bobcat looked at Allen and he got this photo of its face. You can clearly see the tufted ears.

Bobcats are seen year round in grassy meadows here on the Mendonoma Coast.

The Mendonoma Coast received a good amount of rain this past winter. At our house we've received over fifty inches, a good drenching. All that rain brought the many seasonal creeks to life. Craig Tooley photographed one recently.

Some creeks, like this one, flow gently over a sandy beach to reach the Pacific Ocean. Others throw themselves over bluffs in their journey to the ocean, creating beautiful waterfalls. If the sun hits the waterfall just right, a rainbow appears, as it did when Allen Vinson got this photo at Black Point Beach on The Sea Ranch.

Allen Vinson snapped this photo of a young, possibly female, CA Sea Lion. We could use a caption for this photo!
