There is a flowering plant, a red hot poker plant, that attracts bees and hummingbirds. Allen has focused his camera on it and has been rewarded with some beautiful Anna's hummingbird photos.

It must look like a smorgasbord to the hummer! Anna's Hummingbirds are year round residents of the Mendonoma Coast. In the winter the early blooming native manzanitas sustain these living jewels.

The White Fawn is startling to see - you almost can't believe your eyes! It has a normal-colored sibling. Allen Vinson recently photographed this special fawn, which can be seen grazing at The Sea Ranch.

You can see that it is not an albino and it is beginning to color up a bit. To see a photo of this fawn with its twin posted on May 28th, here is the link:  http://www.mendonomasightings.com/2014/05/28/a-white-fawn-was-born-on-the-sea-ranch/

Last Thursday Allen Vinson had his camera in hand when he and Craig Gilliland spotted a huge spout.

Then a second whale appeared.

I wonder if this might be a mother/calf pair. The Blue Whales were quite a ways out - Allen was using his long lens to get these photos. Here are a few more looks.

This last photo shows you what Allen and Craig were seeing from the bluffs. This is the time of year we are more likely to see a Blue Whale, the largest creature on earth. Very much endangered still, as their numbers have been slow to increase after whaling was stopped.

It's a wonderful sighting, that's for sure. And two Minke Whales were spotted earlier the same day.

Usually I receive wonderful photos of newborn fawns, sometimes leaping with joy like this one.

Allen Vinson got this photo. He said he got it because he saw the Fawn doing this just before it took off - peeing!

Now there's something you don't see every day. Thanks to Allen for allowing me to share his photos with you here.

We feel so fortunate that these lands are now in the public domain. Allen Vinson recently hiked part of the lands and took these photos.
