Suzi Chapler got some magnificent photos of a Northern Harrier at Gualala Point Regional Park. In this first photo, the Harrier had just nabbed a snake, which we believe is a Coast Gartersnake.
In this next photo you can see this hawk's owl-like face, which helps it hear mice and other small rodents...and snakes!
Their call is a "kek, kek, kek" sound and you can hear it here at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Northern_Harrier/sounds
What a treat to see these photos. I thank Suzi for allowing me to share them here with you.
We had just a little rain overnight. Today is cool with intermittent sun and clouds.

Fantastic sighting and photographs!
I'm jealous, I've not see a Northern Harrier in the wild yet.
Thanks for sharing!
