Northern Harrier's are slim hawks with long tails. Their owl-like face is fascinating to see. Eric Zetterholm recently photographed a handsome male.
The stiff hairs on this hawk's face direct sound to its ears, allowing it to hear mice and voles. They also, of course, use their eyes when looking for prey.
To hear their call, here is a link to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Northern_Harrier/sounds
Thanks to Eric for allowing me to share his photo with you here.
A few light showers this morning after a magnificent sunrise. It's sunny this afternoon with beautiful clouds.
