I queried Paul and here's how he got this photo:
Paul wrote,
"Here is how the photo was created.
The photo was taken at night.
I pointed my camera towards the North Star in order to get a circular star trails in the sky.
I took 40 exposures that were two minutes long for a total of 80 minutes.
On the first exposure I lit the tree up with a flash light, a technique called Light Painting.
Then in Photoshop I stacked all 40 photo together to create the “Star Trails”."
